In Windlein liegt’s Kindlein auf Heu und auf Stroh,
Maria und Joseph begrüßen es froh
und droben da loben auf Bergen den Herrn
die Engel, und funkelnd glänzt Sternlein an Stern.
Nun träumen und säumen die Hirten nicht mehr
es wies sie zur Krippe das Himmlische Heer
die Weisen, sie reisen geführt von dem Stern
Gold, Weihrauch und Myrrhe zu opfern dem Herrn.
Und Freude kehrt heute bei groß und bei klein
dem Heiland zu ehren all überall ein.
